This presentation will focus on deconstructing the multifaceted concept of shame and the reinforcement of the shame-shame cycle. We will discuss both self-pointed shame and body shame. The presentation will also focus on the development of self-objectification as reinforced by westernized society and complicating factors of trauma. We will focus on how we see shame manifest in the treatment process, both in the therapy room and at the meal process. Finally we will discuss specific interventions used to reconstruct a more body positive and self-affirming approach to life.
