Since October 2000, The Alliance for Eating Disorders Awareness has worked tirelessly to create significant impact and meaningful change in the lives of so many across the globe, including locally in Louisiana. In 2017, The Alliance launched a free, weekly, clinician-led eating disorders support group in New Orleans. In 2018 and 2019, we hosted two very low-cost EDucational training days in New Orleans. Almost 200 healthcare professionals participated in the two full-day conferences on how to better recognize, refer, and support individuals experiencing eating disorders. In 2019, members of The Alliance’s Louisiana Affiliate and other dedicated local supporters raised funds to launch a second free, weekly, clinician-led support group in Baton Rouge. With the funds raised to date, The Alliance has successfully trained local clinicians to facilitate free, weekly, clinician-led support groups that will open once it is safe to do so.
We hope you will join us on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at 7:30pm EST for our virtual gala, “20 Years 20 Stories: Celebrating Two Decades of Creating Change”. The gala will feature stories from individuals who have inspired us over the past two decades, a special award presentation to our Global Changemaker, actor and activist Jameela Jamil, and appearances by several sitting members of the United States Congress and local government.
Join us as we celebrate this milestone in our history, and help us make an impact in your community. The funds raised on Team Louisiana’s page remain in the state. We are hoping to raise enough funds to continue to provide a free, weekly, clinician-led support group in New Orleans and start the group in Baton Rouge!
Thank you for your support and we look forward to celebrating with you on October 15th!
With sincere gratitude to the Pennington Family Foundation and Louisiana State University’s Peabody Society for their support of these free, critical services!
